Richard Lovett's Service to the Community Recognised.

Richard Lovett, President of the Rotary Club of Alexandra, was presented with a sapphire pin for his Paul Harris Fellowship at the Rotary Club of Alexandra’s Christmas meeting in 2016.  The sapphire pin acknowledges by Richard’s continued service to the community, by the Rotary Club of Alexandra contributing  $1000 US on his behalf to the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.  2017 marks the centenary of the Rotary Foundation which has grown from the first donation of $26.50 US  to over $157 million US dollars and by June 2017 the goal is $300 million US dollars.  The foundation is the powerhouse that resources Rotary Projects all over the world including the elimination of Polio through the Polio Plus Project.

Richard was taken totally by surprise by the presentation of the sapphire pin but it was no surprise to the Rotarians and their guests as Richard is the energy of Rotary Service in our community always ready to put in what ever is required.  One highlight of the recent years has been his commitment to the Bowel Scan project, not an easy project to get enthusiastic about until the results are in and of the 100 plus kits sold last year there were 6 positive results or 6 people who may have bowel cancer in an early stage where it can so easily be eliminated.  Richard acknowledged that this project has ben particular rewarding as we do not know names of those involved but we do know that the community is healthier and those at risk are on a program to eliminate the pain and suffering of serious disease.

Richard in thanking his fellow Rotarians also acknowledge the fantastic support from his wife Jeanette without which he could not do the things he does.  He also said that he was not going to stop and called on everyone to actively support our community and commit to "service beyond self” as a basis for all enterprise.
